We only know what the immediate space around us is, clean and beautiful in its structured manner, however to understand what is out there in the world, we must get out of our space, our comfort zone. Frustrated with watching today’s youth base their lives around the brand new Nike shoes or Mp3 player, I asked myself how do we become aware as one body, as one people? Is it not our responsibility to understand hunger, famine, the injustices suffered by our peers? Why are we so divided by borders created in the first place by war and destruction? Further divided by materialistic matters.

All around us are symbols, ideas, thoughts, and beliefs that seperate us from each other, may it be in the form of religion, the pigmentation of our skin, or the kind of music we listen to. How do we learn to comprehend all of us, the weakness, strengths, desperations, the kindness, the search for food? In the circle of life, as there is devastation, destruction, death, there is also growth, and birth, and kindness. How do we contribute?

How do we begin to see us all as one body, one soul, and how do we feed that soul to make us all a healthy body?

It is so very important to break down the holds of what mainstream media is teaching us and our youth. They give us materialistic notions and ideals to live up to that are unrealistic and destructive. It is so very important to go beyond messages taught to us by money hungry corporations and make messages of our own. Create our own message!!

There is so much healing caused by aid workers to rid hunger and famine, and many Non-Profit organizations working endlessly in support to help the unfortunates. How do we begin to get the youth, the new generation, involved at a mass level? YTGA is a youth inititive, for the youth, so that they may begin to know, they too have power, that there is something they can do. First and foremost one must know what is happening, so something may be done about it. To not be sheltered – break barriers of so-called 1st 2nd 3rd worlds – just to be together as one body, and to be together we must be aware.

I felt helpless when I was young, I still do, when I read about the heart-breaking tragedies taking place in many parts of the world today. But at times, along with a burst of energy, comes the realization that we are not helpless – that we all have individual strengths. There is strength in knowing, strength is in awareness, only then can we do something about it. Strength in one idea or one seemingly diminutive action. To make aware is doing something powerful, to become aware is to not be as ignorant as we were a moment ago. It is empowering to know and to share what we know.
